First Swimming Lesson

As I stated in my previous post, Hunter had his first swimming lesson this evening. As I suspected he cried.. no.. he screamed the entire time. At first he was excited about the pool and the water. He wanted to put on his new Spider Man swimsuit and go put his feet in the water. After a quick introduction to his teacher, she went to grab him to pull him into the water. Hunter saw what was coming and tried to make a dash out of the water before she could grab him. Too late. As soon as he was in her grasp, the screaming began. She started off by trying to get him to kick but he wanted no part of that. Then she tried to explain to him that she was going to count to 3 and then he was going to get his face wet. The screaming just got louder. The worst part of this was that he was screaming for me and was begging the teacher (politely) to let him out of the pool. But I was proud of myself and just told him that he was doing such a great job. By the end of the lesson (only 20 minutes or so) he was putting his face into the water when she counted to three and would hold his breath. He would even push off of her to get to the stairs, while his face was under the water.

When he was about done she told him he could have a treat so that changed his focus immediately. He did whatever he was told (still crying) after that point to get his lollipop. Ha. He got out of the pool and was laughing and talking about his lesson.

So overall, we survived. The teacher said it will take another couple of lessons and then Hunter will realize that its not so bad and will start having some fun. The teacher wants me to get in the pool tomorrow with Hunter to see if he will swim back and forth between the two of us so he can work on his kicking. Ahhh.. me in a swimsuit after giving birth 7 weeks ago? Good thing these are PRIVATE lessons. Ha.

Will update with another post after tomorrow's lesson! Night.
